Portrait in Evans – Album Design & Visual Identity

Portrait in Evans is a tribute album honoring the music of jazz legend Bill Evans, created by Noa Levy and the Paul Evans Trio, based in New York and Israel. Visualwise collaborated on the project to design a sophisticated, visually striking album that reflects the elegance and nuance of Evans’ music while giving the artists a strong, cohesive visual identity.

The project involved the creation of a full 4-panel CD album (envelope/digipak), digital covers for streaming platforms, and supporting promotional materials. The album is supported by Dot Records and will also be available on digital platforms like Spotify.

Key aspects of the project included:

• Illustration Development: Starting from 5 initial illustration directions, two were selected for refinement: a Bill Evans silhouette and his iconic glasses, which became central to the album’s visual language.

• Vector Artwork Creation: Developed 6 finalized vector illustrations (Evans silhouette, glasses, tie, hand, Evans with glasses, and Noa & Paul silhouettes) to provide versatile visual assets.

• Album Layout & Design: Crafted the full 4-panel CD cover (front, back, inside, spine) and the CD design, integrating the illustrations seamlessly for a polished, professional finish.

• Digital & Streaming Adaptations: Designed 5 Spotify/streaming covers derived from the illustrations, ensuring consistency across platforms.

• Promotional Mockups & DTP: Produced 5 promotional mockups and handled full DTP preparation for print and digital production.

The album cover balances classic jazz aesthetics with modern illustration, creating a visual tribute that complements the musical homage. The album was very well received and the project demonstrates Visualwise’s ability to translate music into a rich, evocative visual experience.
