Project: Genealogical tree
CONTEXT: The Embassy of the Czech Republic in Bucharest aims to strengthen the bilateral relations between the Czech Republic and Romania in all areas, to develop a political dialogue on regional issues, security policy and EU affairs, to develop economic and trade contacts, to look for investment opportunities, to provide consular services to Czech nationals, to encourage cooperation in the field of culture and education and to support the activities of the local Czech community and to promote the Czech Republic.
CHALLENGE: We were honored to be asked by Mr. Ambassador Jiri Sitler to design a special poster where all the Czech Heads of mission in Romania, since 1920 till present, can be found. The project in an unconventional one for its purpose so we had the freedom to make it playful and funny.
SOLUTION: The concept we came up with was to show the portraits in what it is called a family tree or a genealogical tree. A genealogical tree is a chart representing relationships in a conventional tree structure. We chose the linden tree because is the Czech traditional tree. We presented the oldest generations at the bottom and the newer generations at the top. To give the chart an classic look we used specific traditional elements in a modern manner. The portraits are sticked on the background with the help of a magnet which makes the project a playful one. Furthermore, with each occasion another ambassador can be added. Next to the portraits we added some discreet but funny elements such as a squirrel next to Ambasador Ferdinand Veverka (veverka means squirrel) or a snake next to another ambassador.
